Ruins was formed back in 2006 and have been writing, recording and performing live more or less since then. The band originates from the countryside in Sweden and their music can be described as indie folk rock with a singer/songwriter touch to it. Instruments are often used in an unusual arrangement, such as banjo, cello and clarinet, which makes the songs more interesting. The music is influenced by a wide collection of genres and all kinds of bands from different time periods. Some examples are bands like Wovenhand, José González, Ryan Adams and Simon and Garfunkel. The backbone of almost every song consists of guitars or banjo accompanied by lyrics often in a duet kind of way.
Almost all of the songs are written by Ruins with the exception of a few covers such as the folky version of Robyns “Dancing on my own”, which were recorded in 2013. All band members originates from Säffle and Åmål but the members are now currently living in different cities (Karlstad, Säffle and Göteborg).
